If the caterpillars are gypsy moths you should let them tickle the sole of your foot as they go squish!
They were tent caterpillars, almost as bad. They usually strip my apple trees.
that would be great if you could teach him to squash pest insects. add potato beetles and Japanese beetles and grubs to the list. very organic garden care.
