Epoxy

Ordered more epoxy today from MAS. Am going to try using the low viscosity version to get a nice finish ready to prime for the hull. I have given the carbon two coats so far but the flag with medium hardener sets up before it has a chance to level out. This leaves a slightly orange peel texture which needs to be sanded down.

Vacuum

A great idea and nice product. I bought a porter cable 10 gallon vacuum that goes on when you turn the sander on. I had just cleaned the shop to get the dust level down and this little beauty has let me keep it pretty clean. I have been sanding the boat each day and giving it a coat of epoxy at night. The dust bunnies have been vanquished, but I did get one bug encased in last night.

Cleaning

I ordered a porter Cable tool-on vac to keep the sanding dust down. Spent the morning cleaning the shop as painting is on the horizon.

Pennant

Charles & I worked on completing the Munson sneakbox today. I made a pennant for the centerboard, plates for the CB pin, reset the floorboards and made a pair of toggle hold-downs for the bailing floorboards.

Transom

Glassed the transom tonite. The wood grain wa too nice to cover with carbon fiber. Turned in my thesis last week. Waiting for corrections. The presentation went well. I talked about spartina and SPARTINA.

Down Bay Regatta

August 16, Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club.
Sailed TORCH with John, Andy, Christian, Phil, John, & Charles. Races were over too quickly. I'd like to sailA-cats all the time. The E scows were fast. The lightings are classic. A-cats are just plain gorgeous.

Trailer

Fixed up a derelict trailer. Lights, tires, and wheels work now, have to fit bunks for boat.
Pete and Dad helped me put the lights on a crossbar so we won't dunk them in salt water when I launch the boat. My other trailer seems to loose the lights every time I launch. Do other people have the same problem?

Keel

Sunday, August 2
Sanded to flatten the bed for the keel, Planed angle on and drilled pilot holes. Mounted keel in bed of epoxy and sanding dust. Mostly carbon fiber scrap and 1 day old epoxy. Very wormy mix. Added a bit of paper to make it more sticky.

Sanding

Saturday, August 1
More sanding. Boat is pretty fair at this point. Have been putting in over 12 hours each day.

Bottom

Friday, July 31
Faired and sanded 12 hours.
